Interior design in Bangkok — tropical heat, layered craft.

Bangkok is hot, humid and dense, and it has a craft culture that rewards a studio willing to work with local makers rather than import everything.

What a project in Bangkok asks for

Condominium residences with fixed shells, private homes, and hospitality and restaurant interiors where atmosphere is the product.

Materials, climate and what actually lasts

Humidity governs everything. Solid timber, teak and rattan behave; many engineered products do not. Breathable finishes outlast sealed ones. Deep shading and cross-ventilation reduce cooling load in a way glass-heavy buildings usually ignore. Thai craft traditions — carved timber, lacquer, woven fibre — sit naturally beside the Indian crafts the studio commissions, and the conversation between them is often the most interesting thing in the room.

How we work in Bangkok

An international project needs a different rhythm: drawings resolved further before mobilising, clear specification for trades working in another language, and scheduled site presence at the decisive moments rather than continuous supervision.

Working across a distance is exactly where BIM earns its keep. The project is modelled and coordinated in three dimensions before anything is ordered, so joinery, services and finishes are resolved against one another rather than on site, quantities come off the model, and a local contractor can build from drawings that leave nothing to interpretation.

NYKS is a turnkey studio: the same people who draw the room are accountable for the room that gets built — design, artisan commissioning, procurement, site execution and handover. We do not take styling-only engagements. More about the studio and how it works is on the about page.

Where a project needs them, we bring in specialists by niche — a landscape designer when the garden is part of the architecture, a lighting designer when the room depends on how it is lit, MEP consultants so services are engineered rather than accommodated, and IT and AV consultants where the space has to be genuinely intelligent. Their work is coordinated in BIM against ours, so everything agrees on the drawing before it has to agree on site.

Questions about working with NYKS in Bangkok

How does NYKS coordinate a project in Bangkok from India?

Through BIM and resolved documentation. The room is modelled in three dimensions and coordinated before work starts, so the specification a local contractor receives is unambiguous. Site presence is scheduled around the decisive stages rather than spread thin.

Does NYKS take projects in Bangkok?

Yes. Bangkok is one of the international cities the studio works in, running design and coordinating delivery with local trades.

How does an overseas project work practically?

Drawings are resolved further before work starts, specification is written for trades who may not share a language with us, and site visits are scheduled at the decisive moments rather than spread thin.

What materials suit Bangkok’s climate?

Solid timber, teak and rattan, breathable finishes, and shading and ventilation strategies that reduce cooling load.

Can Thai and Indian craft sit together?

That contrast is often the most interesting part of the room. Carved timber, lacquer and woven fibre have real affinity with the Indian crafts we commission.
